The Single Market Month concluded in October with debates with both President Barroso and Commissioner Barnier. The month of online debates on the themes of jobs, social rights, banks and e-commerce saw close to 800 ideas submitted from around Europe in all 24 official EU languages. Mostra, working with the Internal Market and Services DG, coordinated all aspects of the campaign from start to finish.
Over 80 online chats with high profile speakers also took place during the Single Market Month; this included a video chat with President Barroso on 16 October. Barroso addressed questions from European citizens on e-commerce and the single market, highlighting the important role both have to play in overcoming the crisis.
On 23 October the Single Market Month was brought to a close with a live TV debate on Euronews, featuring Michel Barnier, Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services and the five participants who submitted the most promising ideas during the month. The participants presented their ideas on topics such as a proposal for customers to rate their banks using a smiley system and a suggestion for standardisation of documents across Europe to facilitate job mobility.
