ICF Mostra recently concluded a campaign with the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) that started in January 2014 and aimed at raising awareness of the EU enlargement process among Europe’s citizens. We ran a writing competition campaign, organised press trips and created a series of communications materials during the past two years.
The campaign kicked off with the ‘So similar, so different, so European’ writing competition which received 730 applications from young European citizens on their experiences of EU enlargement. A series of press trips followed, in which ICF Mostra organised for journalists visits to four Western Balkan countries hoping to join the EU.
We also designed and produced several types of communication and promotional material, such as a highly-visual advertorial that was published in European in-flight magazines; a series of factographs and different animated and thematic video clips. Three animated clips (1; 2; 3) were created to inform people on the pre-accession process and on key components that countries must work on before joining the EU, such as ensuring rule of law and reforming public administration. An additional three thematic clips (1; 2; 3) were filmed and produced to highlight specific pre-accession reforms through individual stories of people living in the Western Balkans and Turkey.
In addition to creating these products, we helped disseminate the videos and factographs to the media and stakeholders around the release of the 2015 Progress Reports . Each year these Progress Reports are released to evaluate the progress made and work still needed by enlargement-hopeful countries. In addition, the factographs have been distributed by EC Representations and at different summits as a way to increase awareness on current pre-enlargement progress.
