Europarl TV, the web-television service of the European Parliament which is operated by Mostra, went live on the night of Sunday 7th June with a five-hour European Election Special.
Involving as it did a purpose-built studio on the third floor of the Parliament building in Brussels, live links to correspondents in Berlin, Dublin and Milan and simultaneous translation into 22 European languages, this was a major technical and journalistic undertaking.
The programme featured the first indications of turnout, results and analysis as well as interviews with senior figures from across the political spectrum and representatives from business, the trades unions and various special interest groups.
Keeping up the pace from 19h00 through to 00h35 on Monday morning was exhausting for everyone concerned, but all went smoothly. Well, it all looked smooth on screen - apparently there were some pretty scary moments behind the scenes, but that's another story...
